My best result up to date was a 4th position in Single hand Spinning Distance event in Slovakia,
1998. Most memorable record: Casting over 70 meters with a single handed fly rod in 2002, a feat
never before achieved on the African Continent, and as far as we know, in the Southern Hemisphere.
After returning from Europe in 1992 I adopted, incorporated, and mastered many of the European Style
fishing methods. During my stay in Europe I was tutored in the art of Pole fishing by a German Master
Angler, Mr. Karl Heinz Kuhne, knowledge that I later used to develop a unique style of Pole fishing
suitable for local conditions. Boilie and particle fishing for Carp was also part of the experience I obtained in Germany.
My first success with artificial lures date back to the Mid - Eighties when I caught my first Catfish on lure.
Fishing off the Float tube for Catfish and Bass remains one of my favorite past times. During July to December 2000 I caught and released more than 1000 Catfish off the float tube with lure in Roodeplaat dam.Each fish was witnessed. Catching Catfish on fly remains a big favorite, but I have caughtmany other species like Bass, Yellowfish, Trout and various saltwater species on the fly as well.
I started fishing LTB in 1998. Since then, I have represented Gauteng North 3 times at the National Inland Championships. My best result was in 2001 when I finished in the no 2 Position out of a group of 80 Anglers. In 2000 I caught a Spanish Mackerel of 18,12 kg on 4kg line in an off shore competition. The fish was only 150grams off the National record. I was awarded my inland colours for LTB in 2002 Personal heaviest bag in a 8 hour session - 150kgs Most fish caught in a 8 hour session 78 Carp, 6 Yellow fish Witbank Dam 1999 Most memorable catch: 18,12 kg Spanish Mackerel on 4kg line
